The wall thickness of rotational molding products is relatively uniform and does not show significant differences. However, sometimes we may want certain areas of the product to be molded thicker. So, how can we achieve this goal. 1. Reduce the mold thickness If you want some certain areas shape thickner , you can consider reducing the mold thickness on these areas when you make the mold. Through this way, these areas will get more heat in the oven, on the plastic side, it will shape more than other areas. 2. Add air amplifier For some parts, some areas may not shape well because of the complex structure design. If so, we may consider adding air amplifier on the mold side. Through this way, it can blow more heat into these certains area in the oven 3. Prehearting Before the mold enters the oven, preheat some areas of the mold with a baking gun, which can make the corresponding product area thicker than other areas. 4.Adjust rotomolding machine parameters For some plastic parts, you can adjust the rotomolding machine parameters, then some material will flow more into the two sides.

Rotational or Roto Molding: Process Overview

The process is simple; however, it can be rather complex in actuality. It starts with putting plastic powder into a hollow mold which is normally made out of cast aluminum or sheet steel. The mold is then closed and rotated on two axes while the mold is being heated in an oven. When the plastic powder is heated it spreads all over the inside of the mold in the required manner. After complete melting, the mold is transported to a cooling area where it cools through the blowing of air and a fine water mist. On attaining the required temperature, the mold is opened, and the frozen part is taken out. In its basic form, rotational molding is not a difficult process; however, because there is no direct control of pressure as is the case with high pressure processes such as injection molding, the process is relatively intricate. Some common parameters that can affect the molding process include the temperature of the environment, relative humidity, type of mold, material used, and quality of the powder used.
